As this group of 26 seniors, staff, and chaperones embarks on a journey of service, reflection, and growth, this blog will serve as a daily update hub for families and friends back home.
Each year, our mission trip attendees return with a renewed perspective and deeper appreciation for the blessings bestowed upon them by the Lord. Michelle Anderson, Campus Ministry Coordinator, will be sharing short stories, photos, and highlights each day so you can follow along and feel connected to this incredible experience.
Thank you for keeping our group in your prayers. Check back soon for the first update!
Tuesday, March 25th - Day 1
After a very early departure from SJCA—3:45 a.m., to be exact—our travelers arrived at Midway International Airport ready to embark on this long-anticipated journey.
Travel went as smoothly as one could hope, and everyone arrived safely in the Dominican Republic. We’re getting settled in and will soon share our first meal together here in the DR.
More details to come—for now, enjoy these first few photos!
Wednesday, March 26th - Day 2
Today was a new day—and a great one. Our group split into two teams: one stayed back at NPH to spend time with some of the younger children in the art room, while the other traveled a short distance to help with an important construction project.
That project? Rebuilding the roof of the NPH gardener’s home. His current roof is made of tin, and during the rainy season, water pours in. He’s been waiting since 2018 for a new concrete roof. We were honored to be part of the team preparing the space so it can finally be poured. Many people here have shared how kind and deserving he is, and we’re so grateful we could contribute to something meaningful for him.
After lunch, the groups swapped places to experience both worksites.
Everyone worked hard and kept a positive attitude throughout. We closed the evening with both small and large group sharing—and without exception, they all expressed how grateful they are to be here. More updates to come soon.
